Hermeneus Legal is a young and bright company offering legal services regarding financial regulatory law and compliance. The company has been founded in January 2022 by Maria van Duijvenbode who has 14 years of thorough experience in the financial sector. Although Hermeneus Legal has a full-scope practice consisting of financial regulatory and legislative advice as well as compliance, the focus lies on FinTech companies (electronic money, payments, crypto and other digital initiatives), asset-management/fund structuring and financial crime related topics.
Hermeneus Legal also provides a dedicated European desk for financial institutions outside of Europe, who are interested to expand their services to the Netherlands and the rest of the European market. Maria mainly focuses on FinTech companies located in the USA, but also UK and Asia.
Legal advice
Regulation is increasingly complex and places heavy burdens and restrictions on how financial institutions may operate. Hermeneus Legal has a lot of experience advising and guiding senior management, in-house legal teams, and compliance functions of various financial institutions to meet their objectives and mitigate risk. Hermeneus Legal will also support your interactions with the Dutch regulators AFM and DNB, if necessary.
License applications
To carry out your business activities in the Netherlands, a 'license to operate' is a must; as it will also be your entrance to the European market. A license application, however, can be a very lengthy and time-consuming procedure. Hermeneus Legal knows what is required, manages the entire procedure, and will assist you with the preparation, completion and submission of your license application.
Interim solutions
In the event of a vacancy, (maternity) leave, sabbatical, (temporary) high workload or if specialist knowledge is needed, Hermeneus Legal offers interim solutions for legal and compliance teams. The interim solutions also include legal management services, i.e. managing a team of lawyers or a project team as well as the legal matters on a temporary basis.
